Horseback riding at Estancia Bonanza: forests, streams and Fitz Roy

One and a half hour horseback ride through the Río de las Vueltas Valley, no prior experience required. A peaceful walk through forests of ñire and lenga trees, streams and mountain landscapes, with panoramic views of the massif.

It's the most traditional way to experience the Patagonian countryside: the horses walk at a steady pace, guides accompany the entire journey, and no prior riding experience is necessary. The activity concludes with a field snack during your stay and free time to explore the place.

With transfer included from El Chaltén, it takes about three hours in total: you can easily fit it in half a day.

A field activity, not a mountain activity

Chaltén is almost always explored on foot, and after two or three days on the trails, your body feels it. Horseback riding changes the experience: the landscape is still the same valley, but seen from a horse at a walk, effortlessly and at a different pace.

    No prior experience

The horses at the ranch are accustomed to riding beginners, and the guides assign the saddle to each person. Before setting off, there is a safety briefing and an introduction to the animals. The ride is at a walk, without trotting or cantering.

Which one suits you best?

If you've never ridden a bike and want to try it → I chose the classic cavalcade. An hour and a half horseback ride through forests of ñire trees and streams, with no prior experience required and with a guide accompanying the entire route.
If you want the complete stay experience → I chose the Horseback riding with food. Add the Patagonian lamb to the grill at El Establo: it's the perfect choice for a day in the countryside.
If you prefer to move around on your own → I chose classic mountain bike. Two hours of cycling along little-used trails, at your own pace and covering more ground than on horseback.
If you want to cycle and then eat well → I chose mountain biking with food. Less bike-like than the classic version, but it closes with the three steps in El Establo.
